As the population ages rapidly, the incidence of dementia is expected to increase. In 2014, there were 5 million people in the U.S. with Alzheimer’s or dementia. The CDC estimates that by 2060, that number will grow to 13.9 million. In the U.S., someone develops the disease every 65 seconds. As a Dementia Friends Champion, you can help make life easier for those living with the disease.
A Dementia Friends Champion is an ambassador for Dementia Friends, promoting the initiative throughout your network and communities, while treating everyone with respect and dignity. This 3-hour Champions’ training session provides the knowledge and activities that are needed to facilitate Dementia Friends Information Sessions.
A Dementia Friend Information Session is a one-hour event with friends, family, colleagues and the wider community that covers the five key messages everyone should know about dementia. The goal of the Information Session is to help community members understand dementia and the small things they can do to make a difference for people living with dementia and their families/caregivers.
