VPAS and Rockbridge Regional Library, in partnership with Dementia Friendly Lexington, will host the next program in a series for people living with memory loss, Alzheimer’s disease, and symptoms of dementia, on Tuesday, August 13 at 10:30 in the Piovano Room.
People with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia and their care partners including spouses, adult children, friends, paid caregivers, and visitors are invited to attend. Activities are designed to engage participants and to foster new friendships in a safe, supportive, stigma-free environment.
The August program will be presented by Peggy Riethmiller who will lead a flower arranging activity. Attendees will use fresh flowers and greenery to create flower arrangements to take home. This activity is designed to stimulate creative expression and verbal interaction through the use of color, texture, and fragrance. Ms. Riethmiller’s expertise is well regarded among RRL patrons and staff as she often donates beautiful arrangements for display in the library, made with flowers she grows and gathers herself.
Subsequent programs will be offered on the second Tuesday of each month. Activities will include music, games, short field trips, crafts, and more.
