VPAS, the local Area Agency on Aging, has empowered those 60 years and older with the resources and opportunities they need to lead engaged lives since 1974.  Our focus is on helping individuals and caregivers successfully navigate the changes and challenges that come with aging.  VPAS' Senior Leadership Team embraces employee feedback and input for improving the services we offer in the community in order to be relavant and timely.
 

Medicare Open Enrollment Counselor

Location: Staunton, Augusta, Waynesboro

Days/Hours: 24 hours a week (three 8 hours days) from Sept. 13, 2021 to Dec, 10, 2021

Pay: $15.50/hr 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Medicare Counselor will be working during the annual Open Enrollment Period to help beneficiaries evaluate prescription drug coverage for the coming year with the goal of finding the most affordable and complete coverage.  The Counselor will provide information on both Prescription Drug Plans (PDPs) and Medicare Advantage (MA) plans.  They also screen individuals for eligibility for various cost savings programs.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: Successful candidates must have prior experience working with older adults, preferably in a human services setting; have excellent computer, analytical, communication, organization and time management skills; and be able to work independently and as part of a team.  Attention to detail, compliance with confidentiality rules, and sensitivity in working with vulnerable populations are a must. Continued employment is contingent on successfully completing training and state certification as a Part D VICAP Counselor.

Medicare Intake Specialist

Location: Staunton, Augusta, Waynesboro
Days/Hours: 30 hours per week from Sept. 27, 2021 to Dec. 10, 2021.  The candidate selected can choose which days and hours they work between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Monday-Friday to 30 hours each week. 
Pay: $13/hr 
Closing Date: Open until filled
Start: Immediately
 
RESPONSIBILITIES: The Medicare Intake Specialist contacts individuals who have upcoming appointments with a VPAS Medicare Counselor in the Staunton, Augusta, Augusta, Waynesboro region in order to remind the person of their appointment and to gather initial client information to help the appointments go smoothly and efficiently.  They will also ask the individuals to submit prescription drug lists ahead of time and file those for Counselor reference.  The Intake Specialist will be supporting 8 staff and volunteer counselors.
 
QUALIFICATIONS: Successful candidates must have excellent computer, communication, organization and time management skills; and be able to work independently and as part of a team.  Attention to detail, compliance with confidentiality rules, and sensitivity in working with vulnerable populations are a must.

Senior Transportation Driver

Location: 212 Warm Springs Dr., Warm Springs, VA
Days/Hours: Mon./Wed/Thurs. up tp 24 hours per week
Pay: $10/hr

RESPONSIBILITIES: Duties include van transportation for individuals 60 and older to and from their homes and Bath Community Senior Services, completing necessary pre-trip checklists, mileage documentation, computer work, preventative and routine van maintenance checks.
 
QUALIFICATIONS: Must have previous experience driving a 14-passenger body on chassis wheelchair van and possess good written, verbal and computer skills.  Valid VA driver's license and clean driving record are also required.

Programs Coordinator 

Location: Maury River Senior Services, 2137 Magnolia Ave., Buena Vista, VA
Days/Hours: Full time/40 hours a week
Pay: $16.75/hr (salaried position)
 
RESPONSIBILITIES: Develop, plan and execute quality virtual and in-person programs that appeal to a wide range of interest that can be presented through the VPAS Cafe and Aging with Confidence models in Buena Vista, Lexington and Rockbridge County in accordance with VPAS policies and procedures. Supervision of program staff, assist with budget development, transporting seniors, building maintenance and management of senior services offered locally.
 
QUALIFICATIONS: Successful candidates must have prior experience working with older adults, preferably in a human services setting; have excellent computer, communication, organization, and time management skills; be able to work independently and as part of a team; and have a clean driving record and a reliable vehicle. Leading exercise programs and presentation skills preferred.

Senior Transportation Driver

Location: Staunton, Augusta, Waynesboro

Days/Hours: 20 hours a week, split over Monday, Wednesday, and Friday

POSITION: The Senior Transportation Driver provides transportation to and from the rider’s home to medical or life necessary destinations for individuals 60 years and older, or individuals under 60 with a disability, who do not have other transportation options available. The Driver uses safe driving practices and ensures proper van maintenance in order to operate the van safely. Transports are made within Staunton, Augusta, and Waynesboro as well as healthcare destinations outside of the area.  

QUALIFICATIONS: Successful candidates must enjoy working with older adults, have verbal good communication skills, be able to work independently, and have good time management skills to follow the schedule provided. Employment is contingent on a satisfactory DMV, Criminal Background, and Drug Screening checks, as well as completion of the VPAS Health Care provider authorization form.
