VPAS, the local Area Agency on Aging, has empowered those 60 years and older with the resources and opportunities they need to lead engaged lives since 1974.  Our focus is on helping individuals and caregivers successfully navigate the changes and challenges that come with aging.  VPAS' Senior Leadership Team embraces employee feedback and input for improving the services we offer in the community in order to be relevant and timely.

Director of Senior Services

VPAS is accepting interested applicants for a full-time Director of Senior Services in VPAS’ Southwest Region. This region encompasses Buena Vista, Lexington, Rockbridge County, Bath County and Highland County. 

OFFICIAL POSITION TITLE:  Director of Senior Services for Southwest Region

DAYS/HOURS: Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:00pm  

WORKSITE: 2137 Magnolia Ave., Buena Vista, VA 24416

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: The holder of this 40 hour/week position is a member of the Senior Leadership Team and is responsible for assuring delivery of VPAS-funded services to older individuals including in-home and community-based services. The ideal candidate will have broad knowledge of and contacts within the Region, and will have demonstrated success in:  
•    Working with older adults, their families and caregivers
•    Maintaining high-quality programs that adhere to established requirements
•    Managing and leading staff and volunteers
•    Developing and managing budgets
•    Fundraising, including grant writing
•    Developing and sustaining professional relationships
•    Public speaking and writing for publication
•    All facets of Microsoft Office Professional
•    Learning and implementing new skills
•    Working in a nonprofit environment

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's Degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education, training, and work experience in the human services field.  At least two years of experience in a leadership role in the human services field preferred.
